2002 YAMAHA BB400. TAKES 20-30 STARTS TO WORK. AFTER THAT, HARD TO IDLE ON IT'S OWN. ONCE IT WARMS UP, WILL RUN OKAY BUT BACKFIRES,LIGHTLY, AT IDLE.
NEW GAS, NEW FUEL LINES AND FILTER,CLEAN AIR CLEANER, NEW PLUG, HELP....

Sounds like the idle mixture is too lean. If it has sit for any length of time with old gas in it, the idle passages/jet are probably gummed up with varnish. If it has not sit, there is most likely dirt in the idle fuel passages in the carb body. Can be a real PITA to get clean. Will likely require complete tear down of the carb. NOTICE, a carb rebuild may or may not solve the problem, however, tear down time is a good rebuild time. The idle passages are tiny, and will require soaking in carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air, repeatedly, to get the varnish out. If it is dirt, one good squirt with carb cleaner may get it out.
