I guess that depends on what you plan on doing with it. What mods you plan on putting into them. What kind of woods and how much power you want.

The Cdale has a lot more power than the 400ex. The fuel injection, light weight frame and suspension are awsome. But the 400ex is tried anf true. It's a very nimble machine and has great abilities. I like them both.

Another consideration is the type of hills the woods you are going to ride in. The Cannondale has a deeper low end and more power for the steep stuff.

With all that said. Keep in mind the Cdale is a finiky and high maintnence machine. The 40ex is simple to work on and parts are quick to find.

The cdale thats gonna kick his but will be mine  jk... I am learning more and more about the cdale and I am finding that its not exactly what I expected. I think with the mods Im putting in the motor, it should be nice and reliable though. Ive got over 1000 bucks of stuff Im buying. Heres some of the big stuff:

crank completey rebuilt with new rod by timbo at cdaleriders w/ z400 bearing 375
tranny drain bolt - 10?
New ATK piston and sleeve 175
stage 8 bolt kit 120
shifter linkage fix $.30
new bearings in crank plate and case... 200?
of course a gasket kit 80
Thats 960.

Then I need oil filters, coolant, and both oils for a couple months. probably 200 there.
Like I said, Im learing more and more about cdales and what owning one is all about

PS, Which oils do you guys run? Amsoil good for motor? What about tranny and I am looking for a cheap place to get evans coolant. Any help is apreiciated!

Chigger, give Brad at Black Widow a call about the bearings and gaskets. He'll get you fixed up good and most likely cheaper than anywhere else. Not to mentin FAST!

I run what Team Quadshop uses which is Torco tranny oil and Motul engine oil. Very nice stuff and fairly priced. I recently the tranny to the new Mobil 1 high performance bike oil though. It's supposed to be better than Torco but can't think what they call it. Either way, make sure you get full synthetic.
